NOTD: ACid/DC

*This is a scheduled post, I am currently in Spain. The last two manicures for the Spring Challenge will be posted when I get back home next week. I'll be quite late, but I'll post them.*

I admit, I wanted that polish only for the name. Sure, I love greens and everything, but I'd even buy an orange polish if named after AC/DC ;) Orange!

Well, no words needed. Catrice's ACid/DC is a bright green, a true acid color. It's not completely creme, it has a subtle shimmer (not exactly shimmer, but something like shimmer?) Anyhow, I'm bad at describing polishes, just take a look.

This is two coats plus topcoat. And if you don't have picture perfect nails, use a base coat! I made a terrible mistake not to.

Where do you stand on "acid-y" polishes?

Spring Challenge Day 3: Fruit and Dots

I've already written an introduction to this challenge and you can read it here.

Today's manicure is titled "Fruit and Dots" and the color combo I chose is pink and green.

This is the challenge I was really looking forward to. I was deciding between kiwi and strawberry nails, but I then realized that I'd much easier use pink and green in a strawberry than in a kiwi. ;) And I'm glad I did that because just today I saw that Mateja from Purple Glitters, did a kiwi manicure for this day and she did exactly what I was going to do. Besides, this strawberry nails art was completely my idea and I'm SO proud of it! You guys know that I'm not good with any kind of nails art, so this is a huge thing for me :)

Let' see what I came up with:

I know the colors aren't exactly pastel, but well, I don't really have a lot of pastels in my collection so those will have to do. I used two coats of Catrice ACid/DC, for the pink part I used Essence Verry Berry and for the dots just some random white polish.

I'm kinda angry because in the photos you can see every little imperfection that is NOT visible IRL. I hope one day there'll be no more imperfections, not even the tiniest ones. ;)

My first franken polish!

I noticed this ugly cheap polish laying around in my stash, and a tube of yet untried purple glitters. That's right, I immediately thought of mixing them up and making my very first franken polish. After all, I had nothing to loose - I hated that polish and I don't really use loose glitters. So even if I messed it up, I'd be okay. But it turned out with me LOVING the result.

I would never buy a polish like this in a store. But since I know what it was and that I made it pretty, well that's good enough for me. It's actually much more pink IRL, but it doesn't show on photos because of the lack of the sun these days. I really wish it'd be sunny again.

The polish doesn't have a name yet, but it's light shimmery pink color with tiny purple glitter in it. Captain Obvious on his duty. ;)

How would you name my new baby?

Spring Challenge Day 2: Flowers and Stripes

I've already written an introduction to this challenge and you can read it here.

Today's manicure is titled "Flowers and Stripes" and the color combo I chose is blue and purple.

When it comes to nail art, I am not skilled at all. I am clumsy and with my ridiculously small nails, nail art is an even tougher challenge. So I decided that I will not give myself trouble with complicated designs and so on. I'll keep it as simple as I can.

So for today's mani, flowers and stripes, I thought about tulips. A beautiful, yet so simple flower. I took the shape of it and drew it on my nail with two simple stripes. You see, it's a flower and it's made with stripes! ;)

It didn't turn out perfect, but definitely better than Day 1 of this challenge. For a base color I used Essence - Forget Me Not (Blossoms Etc... LE) that I've already shown you here and for the stripes I used a glitter stripier (Vollare). The result:

Spring challenge Day 1: Love and Life

I already wrote an introduction to this challenge yesterday and you can check it out here

Today's manicure is titled "Love and Life" and the color combo I chose is yellow and green.

I thought about this mani for quite a while and I find it the trickiest in the whole set. But it also gives you the most freedom, as far as the nail art goes, so that kinda evens out. I had a picture in my mind, but I wasn't qiute happy with it, so I asked the most inspiring blogger ever, Marta from ChitChatNails, for advice.

She thought of a newspaper manicure (that I've tried once before, but slightly failed) that would look like a diary and represent 'life' and little hearts on top of it, which would represent 'love'. I loved the idea and here's what I managed to pull together. I have to say that I hate the result. First off, yellow doesn't look good on me. And second, those "hearts" look nothing like hearts and I'm kind of ashamed to post it. Plus, it's raining here so the light for photos sucks. Oh well, maybe Day 2 will be better.

I used three thin coats of 'Essence - My Yellow Fellow' (Blossoms etc... LE), then a few articles from out local newspaper for the print and the hearts are made with 'Miss Sporty - China Glaze'. For topcoat I used 'Essence Nail Art Sealing Topcoat'.

Spring challenge!

I joined a challenge, the "Spring challenge", created by Mateja from Purple Glitters. This is my first challenge ever, so I hope I manage to finish it successfully. :) I thought it would be fun and also, I really needed some material for my blog.

Tasks are:
  1. Love and life
  2. Flowers and stripes
  3. Fruit and dots
  4. Bugs
  5. Rainbow
And to make things not-so-easy:
  1. There are four color combinations that are allowed to use. You can choose which color combo goes with which nail art, but one color combination can be used only once. The exception is the rainbow, where you obviously need more colors.
  2. You are allowed to use other colors too. Only make sure that the given combination color are dominant.
  3. Since this is spring time, base colors should be soft or pastel colors.
  4. As for technique you can do anything you like. It is desirable to use many different and the ones that you normally don't do like water or dry marble, sponging, drawing. And of course you can layer, stamp over it, use a sticker, rhinestones,... Pretty much anything you like.
The color combinations (in no particular order):
  1. Pink and green
  2. Blue and purple
  3. Yellow and green
  4. Orange and pink
The schedule:
  1. Love and life (Apr. 14th 2012)
  2. Flowers and stripes (Apr. 18th 2012)
  3. Fruit and dots (Apr. 22th 2012)
  4. Bugs (Apr. 26th 2012)
  5. Rainbow (Apr. 30th 2012)
The girls that have also joined the challenge:

March haul

I've been a horrible blogger and a horrible shopper, I know! But high school and blog (that demands pictures!) are really not a good combo. Anyhow, this is all I got in March + I stocked up on some essentials like cotton balls, q tips, wet wipes, female stuff etc.

I finally got myself a new glass file (it's by Body&Soul, a Müller brand) that I really recommend - it's cheap and effective. My previous one (by Elite) was horrible, just horrible. I also got my all time favorite hand cream and a new buffing file that I was in need of. And that cute little Marble Mania (Essence) set is awesome, it has a nail art brush, two wooden sticks and two sponges - I can finally try out proper sponging! I hope that happens soon and until then, take care. :)
